Geeky Moment of the Evening
I just discovered that there’s a place in Greece called Tanagra. It was well known in ancient times for making splendid figurines and terracotta sculptures, and today it houses one of Greece’s biggest airports. But do I notice this? Noooo, my first reaction right off the bat is to nearly squawk “SHAKA WHEN THE WALLS FELL.”

~ that moment when you try to console your uncle after he texts you with news that he had to take his old dog in to be put down, and you can’t be with him to console him because he’s in the Bay Area (California).

Daily Musings: A Post About Shoes
I work in a shoe store, and I’ve discovered that I can paint a picture of a person based off of a particular shoe. Like who would wear what type of shoe and so on. For example, we just got these in: First off, they’re a Dr. Scholl’s clog, and their official title is called “Dance.” I’m sorry, but to me, these shoes don’t say “dance.” To me,...

thenannydiariesoflondon-deactiv asked: I dunno how much of a break I'll have. Haha. I'll start working right before school starts up and the only kid at home is three and pretty quite I guess. So I might take one or two English classes online just so that I keep up the study habits and stuff. But two MAX! I cannot over do it when I'm supposed to be on academic leave! Haha. And seriously, there have been so many things...

That moment when you realize one of your favorite actors, Rene Auberjonois, who played THIS guy: and voiced THIS guy: (among scores of other stuff) ALSO did the speaking AND singing voice of THIS guy: First off, let me state that my knowledge of Auberjonois’ work is fairly extensive - he has a very unique face, and a very unique voice that I can always pick out simply by hearing it...

So I walked up to Subway with my mum and the kid (a 7-year-old) she’s tutoring. It was sprinkling a bit outside, no problem. My dad met us there, having driven the truck, and we all had a nice lunch. We got ready to leave. It’s raining a bit harder now, and whereas a bit of rain never hurt anyone (plus we had umbrellas), my dad was nice enough to tote us all home. Only problem was...

So I had an odd dream last night. I only remember bits and pieces of it, but two things I DO remember: 1. A great friend of mine - a caller for Irish dancing and coordinator of Irish cultural events - named Sam there, and his wife Annie had texted me, saying “Is Sam there with you? We heard the commotion and decided to check it out, but I wanted to make sure that he was there with...

It’s my mum’s birthday, and the phone rings. My little 3-year old niece (with my sis/her mum accompanying her) sings “Happy Birthday” into the answering machine for all to hear. Sure, that’s cool…

UPDATE: Thanks to EVERYONE who signaled-boosted my previous note; your prayers and thoughts helped immensely. According to what I’ve been told and read, my friends have been FOUND! They haven’t pinpointed their location yet, but somehow a call was able to get through (normally no reception way out in Opal Creek), and they said they’re fine, just cold and tired. A ground crew is...

I just discovered that some friends of mine are potentially lost in Opal Creek - I guess it’s on the local news channels as well. It’s a 50/50 feeling I’m experiencing right now, because from what I know, my friend Jordan is pretty outdoors savvy, and my friend Danielle has a good head on her shoulders. But it’s still scary, thinking about the fact that they might be...

*sigh* Nostlagia’s hitting me hard right now. I’m always realizing just how much the Muppets have always been a part of my life. How much Jim Henson has impacted my imagination and view of the world through everything he touched. Crazy, I know. But they’re my heroes, and they’ve never let me down yet. Jim never will. Thanks, Jim, for all the magic you’ve given us...

I forgot how obnoxious 1st graders are…especially spoiled ones whom I have to babysit. Doin’ for my mum while she’s out and about for a bit - she tutors this kid, and will be doing so through June. And all things considered, the kid’s all right most of the time. But still… “What are you doing? What’s that? Can I play the Wii? Can I have this? I...

Spell/grammar checking 5th grade history reports in my dad’s class, and came across a report on the composer Robert Shumann. The last paragraph in the report is as follows: “Several times he tried to kill himself. After one time when he jumped off a bridge over the Rhine River, he admitted himself to an insane asylum where he died. It is thought he died of syphilis, which is a type of...

My Uncle Beans texts me today to tell me he now understands how to use Facebook. This is a big deal, coming from a retired car/air conditioner mechanic who was certain he’d blow up a computer just by looking at it wrong. He made sure to mention that I should check out his profile picture as well. It’s one of him and his son at the KISS concert they went to for his 50th b-day several...
